A time to know…

The beginning of my study on understanding and wisdom.

Psalms fourteen says that God is looking down on earth, seeking for wise and understanding people. His is searching for those who truly search for him. Understanding God’s Word is not only incredibly vital to our Christian existence, the principles we can glean from the Bible are endless. That which you feed yourself with sustains you; the Word of the Lord is the greatest sustinance of all. Like all things, however, understanding the deep complexity of the Scriptures takes practice and dedication. To truly gain knowledge of any one thing you must devote yourself to it, seeking, researching, and studying. Even for the simplest of decisions, the Scripture offers us, not only righteous, but sensible ways to make choices. Our lives must be founded on the Word. If a man seeks position in a certain trade, but does not first study this trade, how will he succeed? If we are to succeed and utilize our faith well, we must make it a priority to study what we believe.

It is also important to remember that God understands us. He sees our hearts and our desires, if we ask for understanding of Him and His Word he will grant it. If we seek understanding on a certain issue or a certain decision, we can ask and he will guide us, if not with His voice then with impartation from the Word. But we must seek, before we will ever find or discover, we must first seek.

Proverbs 2:1-6

1 My child,[a] listen to what I say,
and treasure my commands.
2 Tune your ears to wisdom,
and concentrate on understanding.
3 Cry out for insight,
and ask for understanding.
4 Search for them as you would for silver;
seek them like hidden treasures.
5 Then you will understand what it means to fear the Lord,
and you will gain knowledge of God.
6 For the Lord grants wisdom!
From his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
